LEADERSHIP TRAINING FOR CAPTAINS AND TEAM LEADERS WORKSHOP
- I really need my captains to take more of a leadership role during practice and games
- How do I teach leadership to my captains and players with such little time available?
- What are the most important aspects to being a captain that I need to pass along?
When I coached Division I soccer and started doing sport psych-performance consulting I knew the importance of having team captains but did not go deep enough in my teaching and coaching of captains. Over the past couple of years I have emphasized to my teams and coaches the importance of following a formal leadership educational program for captains and potential leaders. This workshop details this leadership educational program which consists of the following areas: qualities of effective leaders; importance of captains; rewards-risks-reinforcement of being a captain; roles and responsibilities; and important practices of effective captains
Coaches and players will learn
- More about themselves as leaders, especially their leadership strengths, weaknesses
- How to improve and maximize contributions to the team
- How to systematically improve leadership qualities, skills, and practices
- How to hold captains accountable to prescribed practices specific to team needs
- How to incorporate the needs of the team with the responsibilities prescribed by the coach
